As Nigeria looks ahead to the 2027 general elections, a strong grassroots movement is gathering momentum in support of Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, positioning him as a leading contender for the presidency under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor Makinde, widely recognized for his performance in Oyo State, is being hailed as a transformative leader with a track record in healthcare, education, infrastructure, agriculture, and security. His tenure has won him national recognition and the confidence of many party faithful and citizens seeking change at the federal level.Across several states, including Kano, Osun, Lagos, Delta, Jigawa, Plateau, and Bayelsa, campaign posters bearing slogans such as “Seyi Makinde Is the Answer” and “To Move Nigeria Forward 2027” have surfaced, signaling broad-based support that cuts across regional and political divides.
Various groups, including the PDP Youth for Makinde 2027 and women and youth organizations, have endorsed the governor, citing his integrity, empathy, and leadership capacity as reasons why he should lead Nigeria through its current economic and political challenges.
Makinde’s rejection of a one-party system and his advocacy for competitive democracy have also gained traction, especially among Nigerians disillusioned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which critics accuse of deepening poverty and insecurity.
Former Oyo State PDP Chairman Kunmi Mustapha is among those championing Makinde’s candidacy, comparing his vision and grassroots commitment to that of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
With nationwide calls intensifying, the movement backing Governor Makinde continues to appeal to Nigerians of all backgrounds to support what they describe as a fresh, people-centered leadership for 2027.
