Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has ordered security agencies to launch an immediate operation to secure the release of Justice Ebieyerin Omukoro, who was abducted in Yenagoa during the weekend.
The directive was issued yesterday during the governor’s ongoing thank-you tour to local government areas across the state. Speaking at Sagbama Local Government Area, Governor Diri expressed concern over the judge’s abduction and assured residents that the perpetrators would be apprehended and prosecuted.
“We will not allow Bayelsa to become a breeding ground for criminals,” Diri declared. “I have given security commanders marching orders to ensure the safe and swift rescue of Justice Omukoro. Let this serve as a stern warning—Bayelsa is not a safe haven for kidnappers.”
The governor revealed that the abduction was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV), and investigations are already underway to identify those behind the act. He emphasized that his administration would continue to prioritize the safety of all residents and visitors to the state.
Accompanied by his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the governor used the opportunity to thank the people of Sagbama for their unwavering support, describing the area as a key stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa.
“The loyalty and support we’ve received from Sagbama have been exceptional,” Ewhrudjakpo, a native of the area, said. “We remain committed to serving you with integrity and purpose.”
As part of the visit, Governor Diri and his deputy paid homage to the Pere of Kumbowei Kingdom, King Boloyi Sufadoh, who bestowed traditional honours on the state leaders in recognition of their contributions to peace and development.
The governor’s thank-you tour is expected to continue in the coming days, with stops scheduled in other parts of the state.
