The member representing Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Uguru, has called for the immediate government intervention following the recent devastating rainstorms in parts of Ebonyi State.
Uguru yesterday raised the motion he described as an urgent national importance on the floor of the House of Representatives.
The motion drew attention to the severe impact of the storms on residents of Ndieze Inyimegu Unuhu in Abakaliki Local Government Area and traders at the New Building Materials Market, Abakaliki.
According to Uguru, the storms destroyed homes, shops, and goods valued in billions of naira, leaving hundreds displaced and many livelihoods ruined.
He described the situation as a humanitarian emergency and however, appealed to the Federal government and relevant disaster management agencies to swiftly provide relief materials and compensation to the affected victims.
He stressed the urgency of rebuilding damaged infrastructure and restoring hope to those affected.
“This is not just a local tragedy; it is a national concern.
"We must not allow these innocent and hardworking Nigerians to suffer in silence.
"Government support at this time is not just necessary — it is a moral obligation," Uguru said.
The lawmaker’s intervention was widely commended by his colleagues in the chamber, many of whom acknowledged the gravity of the disaster and pledged support for accelerated relief efforts.
This latest action adds to Uguru’s record of consistent advocacy for his constituents, particularly in the areas of emergency response, infrastructure development, and economic empowerment.
The motion has since been referred to appropriate House Committees for further legislative action.
