The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), in partnership with the Nigeria Sport For All Commission, is set to host the 2025 Olympic Day celebration on Saturday, June 28, across multiple states in Nigeria.
This global event commemorates the founding of the modern Olympic Movement by Baron Pierre de Coubertin in 1894 and promotes the universal values of excellence, friendship, and respect. Olympic Day invites people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to engage in physical activity, embracing the spirit of the Games in their local communities.
“This year’s celebration is not just symbolic—it is a clarion call for all Nigerians to embrace fitness, health, and unity,” said Dr Abdul Ibrahim, Chairman of the NOC Sport For All Commission. “We urge state governments, sports councils, and corporate partners to actively participate in this nationwide movement.”
Lagos State, home to the NOC headquarters, will spearhead the celebration with a vibrant lineup of events including aerobic sessions, jogging, fitness walks, and sports demonstrations. Participants will receive commemorative diplomas signed by the President of the International Olympic Committee, marking their involvement in this prestigious event.
With a growing number of states already preparing local activities, the NOC anticipates one of the most widespread and impactful Olympic Day celebrations in recent years.
The NOC also appeals to corporate bodies and philanthropic individuals to support the initiative with financial backing or in-kind donations. “This event offers a unique opportunity for brands to gain visibility while promoting public health and Olympic ideals,” said Tony Nezianya, NOC Public Relations Officer.
