A major political realignment is underway as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leads a powerful coalition of opposition parties in a strategic push to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
NATIONAL PANEL on July 12, 2025 gathered that the coalition driven by key opposition figures including former Senate President David Mark and ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar has begun aggressive efforts to take over existing state structures of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), signaling a calculated bid to centralize opposition power under a revitalized platform.
This bold move was sealed at a high-level meeting chaired by David Mark, which brought together prominent PDP stalwarts such as Uche Secondus, Sule Lamido, Aminu Tambuwal, Liyel Imoke, Babangida Aliyu, Sam Egwu, and Gabriel Suswam.
The leaders unanimously condemned the APC-led administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, branding it a “national disaster” and citing worsening socioeconomic conditions nationwide.
“All indices of development have collapsed. Life is now hell for Nigerians,” the coalition leaders declared, vowing to rescue the country through a united opposition front.
Political analysts viewed the move as an unprecedented attempt to merge the political assets of both the PDP and other opposition parties into a single formidable force capable of toppling the APC’s long-standing hold on power.
If successful, the takeover of PDP structures could provide the coalition with the grassroots network, institutional memory, and national spread needed to challenge the APC at both state and federal levels reshaping the 2027 electoral battleground.
