The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has triggered what it termed a political tsunami in Ebonyi State, signaling a major realignment in the state's political landscape as the party gears up for the 2027 general elections.
In a one-day expanded meeting held in Abakaliki on Saturday, the ADC welcomed defectors from several major political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Action Alliance (AA), and Social Democratic Party (SDP), among others.
ADC Ebonyi State Chairperson, Mrs. Jenifer Adibe Nwafor, described the event as a bold step in the party’s nationwide “rescue mission,” declaring the ADC as Nigeria’s new political bride.
“We are not here for a campaign or a rally. This is a movement to rescue Nigeria. ADC is not new in Ebonyi or Nigeria — we have come to stay,” Nwafor said.
The meeting, which attracted party faithful and coalition partners from all 13 local government areas of the state, culminated in a unanimous vote of confidence in the leadership of Mrs. Nwafor. The motion was moved by Hon. Vitalis Igboke of the Ohazurmba Movement and seconded by Dr. Christopher Nwonu, Esq.
Mrs. Nwafor used the opportunity to issue a strong warning against factionalism and backdoor membership.
“Let it be clear — there is only one ADC in Ebonyi. We won’t tolerate impostors. Anyone parading as a faction must identify themselves publicly or risk being exposed,” she said.
Speakers at the event described the growing strength of the ADC as a political tremor shaking the foundations of the ruling parties, particularly the APC.
“This movement has created panic within APC strongholds. The people want change, and ADC is offering a real alternative,” said one coalition leaders.
Orji Joseph of the Ohanivo Group Foundation,Chuks Obiri, Chinenye Ogazi, and other speakers urged the party to intensify grassroots mobilization.
They emphasized the need for ward-based structures, local government leadership coordination, legal advisory teams, and robust media engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
“This is not about distributing money. It is about restoring Nigeria to the people,” they noted, calling on members to prioritize voter sensitization, especially in rural areas where illiteracy remains a major barrier.
Participants also called for integrity, merit-based leadership, and accountability across all levels of the party structure.
They stressed that the ADC must remain accessible to the grassroots and avoid the elitism seen in other political platforms.
In a post-event interview with journalists, Mrs. Nwafor reiterated her confidence in the party’s strength and preparedness for the 2027 elections.
“We are focused, united, and ready. ADC is here to reposition Nigeria’s democracy, starting from Ebonyi. We will rescue Nigeria come 2027,” she declared confidently.
The expanded meeting marks a turning point in the political tempo of Ebonyi State, as the ADC positions itself not just as an alternative party, but as a serious contender for power.
