The Anambra State Government has strongly condemned the recent killing of several individuals in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area, describing the act as “dastardly” and extending condolences to the families of the victims.
In an official statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, on Tuesday, July 1, the state government assured the public that the perpetrators of the heinous crime would be brought to justice.
“The Anambra State Government is deeply saddened by the recent killing of innocent lives at Ogboji. We strongly condemn this act in the strongest possible terms and extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims,” the statement read.
While urging calm among residents, the government clarified that preliminary investigations indicate the incident may have resulted from an internal dispute and was not targeted at any specific ethnic group or state.
“We want to assure the good people of Anambra and beyond that this incident was not targeted at any particular state or ethnic group. Preliminary investigations suggest that the unfortunate incident may have stemmed from an internal squabble,” Dr. Mefor stated.
The state government has called on the Anambra State Police Command to carry out a full-scale investigation and ensure that those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted without delay.
“We urge all residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended. We will continue to work tirelessly to maintain peace and security in our great state,” the Commissioner added.
The incident, which has drawn widespread condemnation, occurred during a community gathering and left several persons dead, sparking concerns across regional and ethnic lines.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining law and order and providing the necessary support to affected communities as investigations progress.
