The Federal High Court in Abuja has nullified the six-month suspension imposed on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing the action by the Senate leadership as unconstitutional and excessive.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, was suspended by the Tenth Senate for undisclosed reasons earlier this year. However, the court on Friday ruled in her favour, ordering her immediate reinstatement to the National Assembly to resume her legislative duties.
Reacting to the judgment in a post on her official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the lawmaker hailed the court’s decision, labeling her suspension “illegal and unconstitutional.” She expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their unwavering support during the legal battle.
“Thank you great people for your support. Together… We Redefine Leadership,” she wrote.
The ruling marks a significant victory for Akpoti-Uduaghan, reinforcing the judiciary’s role in checking legislative overreach and affirming the rights of elected representatives.
