After days of technical downtime that disrupted vital identity verification services across the country, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has fully restored its National Identification Number (NIN) verification system.
In a statement issued Friday, NIMC announced that system maintenance had been successfully concluded and all services had resumed across Nigeria.
“NIMC wishes to inform the general public that the recent technical maintenance has been completed and all services have been restored,” the statement read.
The service outage, which affected banks, telecom companies, and key government agencies, had stalled transactions and official processes reliant on NIN confirmation.
To further improve service delivery, the Commission unveiled a new mobile application—NIMC NameAuth—designed to simplify identity management for Nigerians. Available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, the app allows users to verify and authenticate their NIN, and initiate data modification requests such as name corrections and other updates.
NIMC also urged Nigerians seeking NIN enrollment or changes to visit its official website for details on nearby enrollment centres and to explore the self-service options now available online.
The Commission expressed gratitude for the public’s patience during the temporary disruption, emphasizing its commitment to providing secure, accessible, and reliable identity services for all Nigerians.
The restoration of services comes as a relief to millions who depend on NIN verification for banking, mobile services, school registrations, and other essential services nationwide.
