In a bold and strategic move to consolidate the growing strength of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of 2027 electoral contests, the Ebonyi State Chairman of the party, Dr. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, has called on opposition members intending to defect to the party to follow the due process and desist from clandestine moves that could jeopardize the integrity of the coalition.
Speaking during a press interaction at the weekend in Abakaliki, Nwafor emphasized that ADC in Ebonyi is open to genuine coalitions but warned that “political backdoor tactics and structural hijack attempts will not be tolerated.”
"Anyone who wants to join the ADC should come through the front door. Register with us officially and don’t sneak in to undermine our system,” she declared.
Nwafor, a long-time party loyalist, clarified that there is only one recognized ADC structure in Ebonyi State under her leadership, duly affirmed by the national leadership of the party.
She noted that recent waves of political alignments have led to an influx of volunteers and defectors from the PDP, Labour Party, SDP, and APC—all seeking a credible alternative in the ADC.
“Some claimed to have joined ADC, yet they haven’t even picked up membership cards or contacted the state leadership. That is not how coalitions work. The ADC is not a party for political hijackers—it is a party of structure, process, and discipline,” she said.
She further extended an invitation to various political support groups and movements including the Obidients, Atiku’s loyalists, El-Rufai’s base, and other stakeholders encouraging them to collapse their structures into the ADC as the new platform for meaningful opposition and national rebirth.
“This is not campaign season. Now is the time to build. You want a winning ticket in the future? First, build the party. Join the structure. That’s how you earn relevance and respect," she further stated.
The ADC leader assured all new members that their political ambitions and interests would be protected within the framework of party unity and collective strength.
Also speaking, Comrade Charles Uzor, ADC Chairman in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, aligned with Dr. Nwafor’s position, insisting that the party is undergoing a rebirth as a credible alternative to the ruling APC.
“We are here to rescue Nigeria, restore democratic order, ensure infrastructure development, security, and eradicate poverty. The ADC is no longer a fringe party. It is a mass movement. But it must be built with sincerity and structure," Uzor said.
He confirmed that harmonization of party leadership is ongoing across the senatorial zones of Ebonyi, with recent sessions already completed in the South, saying the central and northern zones are next in line for harmonization meetings.
Uzor further stated that the party has received notable defectors from across opposition lines and is prepared to accommodate many more provided they follow the formal path of registration and alignment.
The party’s registration is currently ongoing manually at the local and state levels, while its national e-registration platform faces temporary technical issues.
As the ADC widens its political umbrella, its leadership and bonafide members in the state maintained that there is space for everyone, but no room for shortcuts.
