A major controversy has erupted over the ongoing entrance examination into King David Gifted Academy, as Dr. Nwoke Victor Chidi, the lawmaker representing Abakaliki North Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, has formally raised alarm over the alleged misuse of Abakaliki Local Government Area’s admission slot.
In a strongly worded petition dated July 12, 2025, Nwoke condemned the fraudulent use of Abakaliki LGA’s identity by applicants who are not genuine indigenes of the area.
According to him, such impersonation deprives qualified candidates from Abakaliki of their rightful opportunity in an institution established to promote fairness and academic excellence across all LGAs in the state.
“It has come to my attention that certain applicants, who are not bona fide indigenes of Abakaliki LGA, are fraudulently using our slot to register and sit for the examination.
"This unethical practice undermines the integrity of the process,” he stated.
Nwoke, who chairs the House Committee on Youth Development and Sports, called on the Ebonyi State Ministry of Education, the Examination Board, and the management of King David Gifted Academy to urgently verify the true LGA of origin of all applicants using proper documentation.
He further demanded the immediate disqualification of all candidates found guilty of falsifying their LGA, sanctions for middlemen and collaborators involved in the fraud, and a comprehensive overhaul of the school’s identity verification procedures.
The lawmaker also urged traditional rulers, youth organizations, and local leaders in Abakaliki to remain vigilant and report any case of impersonation to protect the educational rights of their people.
Nwoke noted that the petition has sparked widespread reactions across the state, with education stakeholders calling for a thorough investigation and justice in the academy's admission process.
He emphasized that King David Gifted Academy, renowned for grooming some of Ebonyi State’s most brilliant students, was designed to ensure equal access by allocating slots to each LGA — a principle now threatened by these fraudulent activities.
