The Executive Chairman of Ishielu Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Ifeoma Peace Agwu, has debunked reports of an alleged communal clash between the Iyonu and Ezillo communities, describing the claim as false and aimed at inciting fear among residents.
The reaction came in response to a report published on a Facebook page known as “Ezzagu Online,” which alleged growing tension along the Iyonu and Ezillo axis over a purported conflict.
In a statement issued on Friday, July 11, 2025, Mrs. Agwu categorically dismissed the report as fabricated, warning that it was a deliberate attempt to stir unrest in the area.
“My attention has been drawn to a fake and malicious report... alleging tension on the Iyonu and Ezillo axis due to an alleged clash between the Iyonu and Ezillo communities.
"I categorically debunk this report as entirely false and intended to cause unnecessary panic,” the statement read.
She cautioned the public against sharing or believing unverified information, stressing that spreading falsehoods is a criminal offense that will be met with the full weight of the law.
“Spreading false information is a serious offense, punishable by law. We will take all necessary steps to identify and hold accountable those responsible,” she warned.
The council boss called on residents to remain calm and assured them that peace and order remain intact in all parts of Ishielu Local Government.
“I appeal to the public to rely on verified sources for information and remain calm,” she added.
Agwu reaffirmed her administration's commitment to peaceful coexistence and urged social media users to exercise responsibility when sharing news that affects public safety.
