In a bold move to strengthen food security and empower rural farmers, Senator Kenneth Emeka Eze, representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial District, on Monday distributed agricultural inputs worth hundreds of millions of naira to farmers across his constituency.
The event, held at his country home in Ohainya Amagu, Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, witnessed a massive turnout of dignitaries, including traditional rulers, political stakeholders, and grassroots party executives.
Senator Eze, who chairs the Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation, said the intervention was part of his commitment to support the Renewed Hope agricultural initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and complement Governor Francis Nwifuru’s agricultural transformation agenda under the People’s Charter of Needs.
He said the intervention targeted peasant farmers who are often unable to afford critical farm inputs, saying the items distributed included 4,000 bags of solid fertilizer, 1,000 cartons of liquid fertilizer, 1,000 cartons each of insecticides and herbicides, 1,000 daysack sprayers, and 1,000 bags of certified rice seedlings.
Senator Eze remarked: “This programme is not just about giving out items; it is about investing in food security. With these inputs, our farmers will not only return to the farm but also produce more to bring down the prices of food and feed the nation.”
The Senator added that this year’s distribution also featured training for youths on modern agribusiness and value-chain practices, making the empowerment a holistic intervention.
He assured that this annual intervention would continue as long as food insecurity persists, stressing, “A nation that cannot feed itself cannot stand. We must go back to the land, and I'm here to make that possible for my people.”
Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, HRH Eze Oliver Eze Awoke Omaka III of Ekka Awoke Ancient Kingdom in Ikwo LGA, applauded Senator Eze's unprecedented grassroots development strides and his people-oriented representation in the National Assembly.
Similarly, APC Deputy State Chairman, Hon. Alphonsus Nwali, representing the party's chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, described Eze as a model of capacity and consistency, aligning his efforts with the agricultural revolution currently sweeping through the nation.
In their separate goodwill messages, former Federal lawmaker, Chief Lazarus Ogbee and Ebonyi State Universal Basic Education Secretary, Dr. Livinus Ezeuwa lauded the Senator’s inclusive leadership and called for sustained support from constituents to help him achieve more.
It could be recalled that as part of festivities, the Senator had earlier donated three cows and assorted gifts to Ezza people in celebration of the 2025 Okeaku New Yam Festival.
Local party leaders and beneficiaries expressed gratitude and pledged to put the distributed items to effective use to improve agricultural productivity and enhance food sufficiency across the senatorial zone.
