A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has described the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as “unfit to hold public office,” citing what he called Wike’s “disgraceful, incoherent, and deceitful” media performance during a recent interview on Channels Television.
In a hard-hitting statement made available to journalists on Saturday, July 6, 2025, Chief Eze, a former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), condemned the minister’s appearance on the “Politics Today” programme hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, accusing him of spewing “a bitter diatribe laced with lies” against former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
“Nyesom Wike's conduct on national television revealed the poverty of his intellect and the depth of his moral decay,” Eze declared. “He exposed himself as a man of little capacity, no character, and no gratitude.”
Eze, who played a prominent role in building the APC’s media infrastructure, accused Wike of historical revisionism, especially in his claims of self-made political success. According to Eze, Wike’s political rise was made possible by Amaechi, who appointed him Local Government Chairman, Chief of Staff, and later recommended him for ministerial appointment under the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
“The greatest mistake Amaechi ever made in his political journey was giving Wike a platform,” Eze said. “Today, Wike repays that kindness with betrayal, propaganda, and falsehoods.”
The APC stalwart also mocked Wike’s attempt to glorify his family background, insisting that his father was a struggling local pastor, not a “General Manager of many companies” as Wike claimed on national television.
“Wike’s attempt to rewrite his own past is both pathetic and insulting to the intelligence of Nigerians,” Eze continued. “He was a church rat, raised in poverty, and only rose through political favours. There is dignity in humble beginnings, but denying your roots is a form of madness.”
Eze cited testimonies from other Rivers State leaders and commentators including Hon. Vincent Owhonda Amadi, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, and Dr. Ugo Egbujo, who all refuted Wike’s narrative of affluence, characterizing it as fabricated and self-serving.
He further compared Wike's legacy as Governor to that of Amaechi, stating that while Amaechi implemented transformative policies in education, agriculture, and infrastructure, Wike’s tenure was largely about dismantling Amaechi’s gains and enriching himself.
“Amaechi left legacies. Wike left scandals. While Amaechi owns no land outside the homes built for him by the state, Wike is said to own malls, hospitals, abattoirs, filling stations, and over 40% of Port Harcourt’s prime properties,” Eze alleged.
He also questioned the credibility of the judiciary, especially in relation to Wike's wife who serves as a judge.
“One wonders how the judiciary can be insulated from corruption and bias when one of its officers sleeps beside a man like Wike every night,” he said.
In his concluding remarks, Eze lamented that President Bola Tinubu entrusted such a sensitive portfolio as the FCT to a man he described as “a political misfit and national embarrassment.”
“That a man of Wike’s temperament and questionable background is overseeing Nigeria’s capital city is a tragedy,” Eze said. “His utterances and behaviour prove he is unworthy of the office he holds. He is too small for the shoes of greatness and should be nowhere near public leadership.”
