The People's Democratic Party, PDP is weighing former President Goodluck Jonathan and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as potential candidates for its 2027 presidential ticket.
Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, revealed this while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.
Mohammed said the PDP is engaging with “celebrated politicians” who can strengthen the opposition’s chances in the 2027 general elections.
“Of course, he (Obi) is one of the most celebrated politicians too. And you see him within the coalition,” Mohammed stated, hinting at ongoing discussions with Obi.
The Bauchi governor disclosed that he has also held private engagements with former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, stressing that the PDP is quietly consolidating forces without making noise.
“These are some of the decisions that are left to Peter Obi. I have discussed with him, and I told him the PDP is open to all those celebrated politicians who can come and add value to our presidential drive or ambition,” Mohammed said.
He emphasized that the PDP is determined to present a formidable candidate capable of uniting the opposition and mounting a strong challenge in 2027.
