The People of Ebyia Development Center, especially indigent women, nursing mothers and the elderly in hard-to-reach communities of Ebonyi State, have benefited from a free medical outreach programme of the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital.
The Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Professor Uzoma Agwu says, the outreach which is designed as part of the institution’s cooperate social responsibility, is timely as it seeks to reduce the number of complicated cases referred to tertiary health facilities.
The people of the area came out in their hundreds with varying degrees of health complications, to seek relief from medical experts in the midst of challenging economic realities.
For the people of Ebyia, a hard to reach Local community in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, access to proper medical health care is a hard nut, therefore the opportunity of a free medical attention from experts of the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital came handy.
The Chief Medical Director, Uzoma Agwu, told Voice of Nigeria that the hospital has taken the medical outreach across the three Senatorial districts of the State, stating that the motive is to examine the health status of the people from preventable diseases as well as assist those who can not afford quality healthcare in the rural areas.
The medical team had on arrival met with the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Paul Nwophe to intimate him on the takeover of a primary health center at the Ebyia Development Center by the DUFUTH management for an effective and affordable access to healthcare services of the people.
On his part, the Coordinator of Ebyia Development Center, Mr Stephen Iboko said the outreach came when it is mostly needed as people of his development Center have to be healthy at all times as he takes joy in seeing healthy members of the society.
"You can see that DUFUTH is here with different medical experts specializing on different ailments and they are here attending to the different people with different ailments to make them healthy once again". Iboko explained.
Mr Iboko thanked the Governor of the State who has been health friendly since assumption of office .
He called on the people of the area to avail themselves for medical check up and treatment.
Two of the Beneficiaries, Mr Nkwuda James and Eucharia Nwibo thanked the medical team and the Ebyia Coordinator who have come to their side.
