The member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to release the results of 192,089 candidates withheld over alleged examination malpractice.
Ogah, reacting to the development on Wednesday, warned that failure to comply would compel him to institute legal action against the examination body for what he described as “an unacceptable act of sabotage” against Nigerian youths.
WAEC’s Head of National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, had on Monday announced the release of this year’s results, stating that the withheld results represented 9.75% of the total candidates who sat for the exam.
“It is very unfortunate that after candidates wrote WAEC and JAMB to enter the university, WAEC will withhold their results on flimsy excuses, thereby frustrating them from gaining admission,” Ogah said.
He accused the council of operating double standards, noting that such practices do not occur in other West African countries.
“WAEC has supervisors, examiners, and external monitors who oversee schools during the exams. If there is any evidence of malpractice, they should cancel the exam on the spot—not when candidates are processing university admission,” he argued.
The lawmaker insisted that withholding results at this stage would push affected youths into frustration and possible vices, and urged WAEC to “immediately release the results or face legal consequences.”
