A ray of hope has beamed on the people of Eguho-Ezzagu community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State as a philanthropist, Dr. Darlington Ugota, donated the sum of N5 million to support their ongoing rural electricity project.
Dr. Ugota, who is the Chairman of Esthinton Group and Executive Director/CEO of Valington Homes Ltd, made the contribution in what community leaders described as a rare act of generosity that has sparked jubilation among indigenes.
Briefing journalists in Abakaliki, the National President of Ezzagu Zone General Assembly (EZGA), Chief Tobias Offia, said Ugota’s gesture significantly boosts the project, which has so far gulped over N30 million from voluntary contributions and community levies.
“We must thank one of our brothers, Dr. Darlington Ugota, who is not even an indigene of Ishielu Local Government, for donating the whooping sum of N5 million to support the project. This philanthropic gesture is uncommon and has thrown widespread jubilation in our community,” Offia stated.
He described Ugota as a proud son of Ebonyi whose compassion for development and empowerment continues to inspire hope across communities.
According to him, the electricity project involves drawing a high-tension line from Agba to Eguho-Ezzagu for step-down distribution. However, the project still requires over N20 million to be completed.
Offia lamented that Eguho-Ezzagu lacks basic amenities, ranging from good roads to essential infrastructure, stressing that most developmental efforts in the community had been achieved through self-help initiatives.
He appealed to other well-meaning individuals, political leaders, and government agencies to emulate Ugota by supporting the electricity project and other pressing needs of the community.
“Eguho-Ezzagu people are very grateful for our worthy son. We commend his deep sense of sportsmanship and assure him of our continuous support in his missions and visions,” he said.
