The Federal Government has reassured Nigerians of the timely completion of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway and the Aba–Port Harcourt road, describing the projects as critical to economic growth and regional integration.
Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, gave the assurance on Monday during an inspection tour of ongoing works on the highways. He visited sections of the Enugu–Port Harcourt road handled by Arab Contractors and the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Ltd. (CCECC).
Umahi said the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is committed to ensuring that the projects are delivered according to schedule and in line with global construction standards.
“These roads are not just about connectivity; they are economic lifelines. When completed, they will boost trade, reduce travel time, and open up enormous opportunities for millions of Nigerians in the South-East and South-South,” Umahi stated.
The Minister emphasized that the projects were being closely monitored by the Ministry of Works to guarantee quality delivery. He also warned contractors against delays or substandard work, stressing that the government would not compromise on timelines and quality.
The Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, long in a state of disrepair, links Enugu, Abia, and Rivers States and serves as a major route for commerce, agriculture, and petroleum distribution. Its rehabilitation is expected to ease travel for commuters and stimulate economic activity across the region.
Umahi reiterated that President Tinubu’s administration views road infrastructure as central to national development and will continue to prioritize strategic highways across the country.
