The Ebonyi State Government has reassured citizens of an era of inclusive governance where the views of all stakeholders will be respected regardless of political affiliation.
Speaking in Abakaliki on Tuesday during a press briefing to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary and the 29th anniversary of Ebonyi’s creation, the Special Assistant to Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru on Inter-Party Affairs, Comrade Sunday Nwambam, said opposition parties in the state are increasingly closing ranks with the governor to consolidate peace and accelerate development.
Recalling the excitement of Ebonyi’s creation on October 1, 1996, Nwambam described the state’s growth as a fulfillment of the founding fathers’ vision.
He extolled past leaders of Ebonyi State including Dr. Sam Egwu, Chief Martin Elechi, and Engr. Dave Umahi for laying a solid foundation, while noting that Governor Nwifuru’s two years in office have redefined governance.
“Today, Ebonyi has witnessed peace like never before. Political parties and actors across divides are working with the governor because his leadership style is inclusive and development-driven,” he said.
He listed flagship projects such as the nearly completed Vanco Tunnel and Flyover, State Industrial City, Civil Servants’ Housing Estate, Amaeze-Izzo Housing Estate, new airport runway, smart schools, and aeronautic and ICT universities, alongside road expansion, scholarships, and empowerment programmes for youths and vulnerable groups in the state.
According to Nwambam, these initiatives have established Nwifuru as “a unifying figure” whose peace-driven leadership has muted political hostilities and fostered unprecedented inter-party collaboration.
He also lauded the governor’s interventions in conflict-prone communities and boundary disputes, stressing that peace and stability remain central to the administration’s vision.
On a national note, he called on Nigerian leaders to use the country’s 65th independence anniversary as a rallying point for renewed patriotism and stronger democratic institutions in the march toward true nationhood.
