The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ebonyi State, Dr. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, has called on Nigerians to mark the nation’s 65th Independence and Ebonyi State’s 29th anniversary with sober reflection, renewed commitment to justice, and a clear focus on inclusive governance.
Speaking with journalists in Abakaliki during the independence anniversary celebrations, Dr. Adibe-Nwafor acknowledged the “significant strides” recorded by both Nigeria and Ebonyi over the years but cautioned that daunting developmental hurdles still demand urgent and collective attention.
“Every nation is born with challenges, and that is why the ADC is here—to help reshape those challenges. We are committed to building a Nigeria and an Ebonyi that are more just, equitable, and prosperous for all,” she said.
The ADC leader stressed that the party’s manifesto is people-oriented and designed to improve the lives of Nigerians across all strata of society. She maintained that the October 1 anniversaries should not only be seen as moments of celebration but as opportunities to re-examine governance, strengthen institutions, and rekindle faith in Nigeria’s democratic project.
Dr. Adibe-Nwafor urged leaders at all levels to prioritize policies that guarantee fairness, inclusiveness, and economic empowerment, insisting that a sustainable future for both Nigeria and Ebonyi depends on deliberate actions to bridge inequality and entrench good governance.
She also described the October 1 celebrations as deeply symbolic, noting that Nigeria’s independence in 1960 and Ebonyi’s creation in 1996 share the same historic date, making it a double milestone deserving of purposeful reflection.
