The South East region has embarked on the construction of an ultra-modern International Conference Centre (ICC) Hotel in Enugu State to boost regional business, strengthen tourism, and contribute to Nigeria’s economic diversification.
The Nation’s News reports that the main structure of the ICC Hotel has been successfully completed, signaling a major leap in West Africa’s convention and exhibition economy.
The landmark project, undertaken by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) Nigeria Ltd., is regarded as a strategic pillar for Nigeria’s diversification agenda and the revitalization of the South East economy.
Speaking at the topping-out ceremony, General Manager of CCCC Nigeria, Feng Yu, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering the project on time and with international standards.
“We will continue to uphold the principle of co-construction, win-win, and lean construction as we advance with decoration, mechanical and electrical installation, and other finishing works,” he said.
Located in the heart of Enugu, just three kilometers from the State Government House, the ICC Hotel covers a total construction area of about 35,000 square meters. The complex comprises three 10-story towers and a podium, blending modern hospitality with world-class conferencing facilities.
The multidisciplinary project has involved extensive earthwork, structural engineering, interior design, and mechanical installations. Despite challenges such as a tight schedule, rainy-season disruptions, and the precision required for embedded systems, the project management team ensured quality delivery through scientific planning, resource optimization, and close coordination with stakeholders.
Beyond its architectural significance, the ICC Hotel is positioned as a core driver of Enugu’s ambition to emerge as a regional hub for business and tourism. The state, known for its rich Igbo cultural heritage, Udi Hills, and proximity to Abuja and major seaports, has long lacked high-end conference and accommodation facilities.
Observers note that the project also reflects the deepening of China–Nigeria cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, serving as another model of China-Africa collaboration in infrastructure development and sustainable growth.
When fully completed, the ICC Hotel is expected to attract international summits, business conventions, and cultural exhibitions, thereby injecting fresh momentum into Nigeria’s service economy.
