In a spectacle that has gripped Ebonyi politics, Emmanuel Obasi Okike, a youth leader from Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area, has trekked an astonishing 670 kilometres from Ilorin, Kwara State, to Abakaliki to honour Hon. Nkemkanma Kama, member representing Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo Federal Constituency.
Okike, who began his journey on August 25, said the sacrifice was his unique way of celebrating the federal lawmaker’s “unprecedented achievements within just two years in office.”
From renovated schools, solar-powered boreholes, and free holiday lessons for students to new roads, bridges, and other critical amenities across the constituency, the youth leader said Kama had redefined what representation means.
“We have never had it this good. No one’s record can match what Hon. Kama has achieved,” Okike declared on arrival, after what he described as a “turbulent but fulfilling journey.”
Despite insecurity threats that forced him to abandon the Ekiti/Okene axis, Okike braved a longer detour through Bida, Minna, Suleja, Zuba, Lokoja, before arriving Abakaliki, defying multiple calls to abandon the mission.
“Many people told me to stop, but I refused. I believe lack of confidence is the only barrier to success,” he said.
The trek has sparked conversations across Ebonyi and beyond, hailed as a symbolic vote of confidence in Hon. Kama’s grassroots-driven leadership style.
