The Executive Secretary of the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Agency (EBSHIA), Dr. Divine Igwe, has called on the Ezza nation to reject dangerous opposition politics as the 2027 general elections approach.
Igwe made the appeal during a stakeholders’ meeting in Umuoghara, Ezza North Local Government Area, attended by community leaders, political figures, and traditional rulers.
He urged the Ezza people, particularly residents of his hometown, to support the re-election of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and to shun opposition politics entirely.
Describing Governor Nwifuru as a “dynamic and transformative leader,” Igwe highlighted the governor’s People’s Charter of Needs agenda, which has driven significant development across Ebonyi State.
“Governor Nwifuru has redefined governance in Ebonyi. We must support him to ensure the continuity of his developmental projects,” Igwe stated.
He also emphasized the administration’s achievements in the health sector, including free medical surgeries, enrollment and treatment of indigent children and women, distribution of eyeglasses, and health coverage for state workers.
He noted that communities in Umuoghara and Ezza North have directly benefited from these initiatives.
During the meeting, Igwe made a direct appeal to prominent PDP leaders in Umuoghara, including former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Dr. Hyginus Nwokwu, urging them to leave the PDP and join the APC.
He described the PDP as a “leaking umbrella” and alignment with the ruling party as the pathway to sustained development.
“It is time to leave retrogressive politics and join the train of progress under APC,” he declared.
The meeting was attended by several dignitaries who commended Dr. Igwe for his professionalism and dedication since assuming office.
Among them were Hon. Kelvin Oke, member representing Ezza North East State Constituency; Comrade Emeka Nwonu - Executive Secretary of the Local Government Staff Pension Board; Prof. Hilary Eze of Ebonyi State University; Chief Michael Awoke - Ezza North APC Chairman; and Ezeogo Anthony Njoku - Traditional Ruler of Okposi Umuoghara Autonomous Community.
“Dr. Igwe has shown diligence and commitment to service. His leadership is exemplary,” said Chief Awoke.
Princess Chetachi Chibueze Usulor, Provost of the Ebonyi State College of Health Science and Technology, Ngbo, also commended Igwe, describing him as “an invaluable asset” to the state.
In an interview after the event, Dr. Hyginus Nwokwu acknowledged Governor Nwifuru’s achievements under the People’s Charter of Needs, calling them “phenomenal.” While praising Igwe’s appointment as “a round peg in a round hole,” Nwokwu noted that he would take time before deciding on personal party alignment.
Political analysts observed that Dr. Igwe’s rally could influence political alignments in Umuoghara and Ezza North, potentially consolidating support for Governor Nwifuru and the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
