The Diaspora Union of Ndieze-Echi Autonomous Community (DUNC) in Izzi LGA of Ebonyi State has issued a strong warning to stakeholders over escalating leadership tensions allegedly fueled by kindred-based politicking between the Unwuera and Igbojima groups in the area.
In a communiqué released on Friday and signed by Diaspora Chairman Comrade Chibuzo Oziogo and Secretary Comrade Ogaga Christopher, the Union decried the rise of factionalism driven by lineage loyalty rather than merit, warning that such divisions threaten the peace, unity, and sustainable development of the community.
Citing recent remarks and actions attributed to Mr. Cajethan Njoku, a prominent figure in the Unwuera group, the Union reminded the community of past leadership transitions such as the tenures of Njoku himself, Moses Nwankwo, and Nwachukwu James—all of whom served without protest, indicating that competence, not kindred origin, had guided past choices.
The Union emphasized that while traditional rulership remains a lifetime role, positions such as the Town Union President are constitutionally tenured and must not be conflated.
It also clarified that the Community Youth President role is already zoned to the Unwuera group, urging calm and cooperation.
The Union condemned the airing of internal disputes on social media, labeling it harmful and unproductive.
The body instead called for respectful engagement with traditional leaders and stakeholders within the Izhi clan through recognized dialogue channels.
Reaffirming its dedication to transparency, peace, and structured governance, the Union appealed to elders and opinion leaders to act swiftly in fostering reconciliation.
Youths and residents were also urged to remain law-abiding and not allow themselves to be used as instruments of division.
The Union concluded with a firm commitment to unity and progress, pledging to work with all parties to maintain Ndieze-Echi as a model for communal harmony and development.
