The Ebonyi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Francis Nwifuru, has successfully restored lasting peace to two previously crisis-ridden communities—Okporojo village in Idima Community, Edda Local Government Area, and Ndukwe Village in Amasiri Community, Afikpo Local Government Area.
This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Border Peace and Conflict Resolution, Professor Paul Nwobashi, while briefing journalists shortly after a peace meeting with stakeholders from the affected communities.
The meeting was held at the Old Government House in Abakaliki, the state capital.
Professor Nwobashi stated that the government’s position is for all parties to return to the status quo and uphold the existing peace in the region.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Skills Development and Job Creation, Mr. Okwu Oko Udu, who hails from one of the affected communities, pledged his full support to the Governor in maintaining peace across the state.
“These communities are brothers,” he said, “and there should be no reason for conflict among them.”
Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, Engr. Timothy Nwanchi, and his Edda counterpart, Mr. Chima Ekumankama (represented by Mr. George Ukpai), expressed their gratitude to the Governor for his timely intervention in restoring peace.
The Coordinator of Edda North Development Centre, Mrs. Cecilia Nkama Nkama Ude, was moved to tears as she praised the Governor for the return of peace.
“I am a woman, and every woman should be known for peace.
"I've been organizing prayer sessions at our motor parks because of this crisis. I thank God for answering our prayers. We don't want more killings in Osso Edda and Amasiri. We must embrace the peace our Governor has brought," she said.
