The Ebonyi State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ebonyi State Chapter, to advance youth empowerment and sports development across the state’s 13 local government areas.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the NYCN State Secretariat in Abakaliki, Chairman of Ebonyi SWAN, Comrade Ndubuisi Nwogha, lauded the NYCN leadership for its dedication to youth-oriented initiatives and community development.
“As sportswriters, our role goes beyond reporting events. We also create programs that empower young people. Recently, we presented cash awards to outstanding students in essay competitions, and plans are underway for a statewide youth initiative across all local governments,” Nwogha stated.
He expressed optimism that the renewed partnership with the NYCN would open greater opportunities for both organizations to jointly promote youth inclusion and development in Ebonyi State.
Responding, the NYCN State Chairman, Comrade Douglas Ochishi, commended SWAN for its sustained efforts toward youth empowerment and assured the association of the Council’s unwavering support.
“SWAN has proven to be a dependable ally. Despite limited resources, your commitment to community service and youth development remains exemplary. We will continue to recommend your programs for partnership with NGOs and relevant government agencies,” Ochishi said.
He further urged SWAN to extend its activities to educational institutions across the state to help identify and nurture young talents in sports and journalism.
“Collaborate with school heads, provosts, and vice-chancellors. Where challenges arise, our office will intervene to ensure your initiatives receive the attention they deserve,” the NYCN boss assured.
Also speaking, the immediate past NYCN Chairman, Comrade Samson Aligwe, Esq., commended both bodies for strengthening ties in line with the state government’s youth development vision under Governor Francis Nwifuru.
“We must continue to align our efforts with the Governor’s People’s Charter of Needs and the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritize youth empowerment and social inclusion,” Aligwe emphasized.
In a vote of thanks, the former Chairman of SWAN Ebonyi State, Comrade Chukwuemeka Opara, appreciated members of both organizations for their commitment to fostering mutual understanding and collaboration.
He noted that the engagement, which brought together executives of SWAN and NYCN, concluded with a renewed resolve to deepen efforts in youth development, sports promotion, and media partnership across Ebonyi State.
