The Director-General of Ebonyi State Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC), Chief Tony Nwizi, has commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for providing genuine dividends of democracy through the implementation of the People’s Charter of Needs agenda in the state.
Chief Nwizi made the commendation in Abakaliki when a team of journalists paid him a courtesy visit at his office.
He noted that the present administration has demonstrated a deep understanding of the people’s needs through various projects, empowerment programmes, and the provision of social amenities across the state.
According to him, the payment of outstanding gratuities and pension arrears amounting to ₦4 billion to retirees dating back to 1996 has brought relief and restored hope among senior citizens.
“Many pensioners who had lost faith in the system received alerts while on hospital beds and regained their joy.
It was a practical demonstration of compassion in governance,” he stated.
Chief Nwizi also lauded the Governor’s efforts in the education sector, which include renovation and construction of classroom blocks, recruitment of over 1,000 teachers, and strict monitoring of private schools to ensure quality standards.
He disclosed that the administration had further revitalized tertiary education by offsetting debts owed to Ebonyi State University and awarding 1,000 postgraduate scholarships, 300 overseas and 700 local to deserving graduates.
“The scholarship scheme has not only opened doors for academic excellence but also lifted many families out of poverty,” Nwizi added.
He described Governor Nwifuru’s leadership as people-centered and visionary, expressing confidence that the ongoing reforms under the People’s Charter of Needs would sustain inclusive development and improve the welfare of Ebonyians.
