Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced his willingness to appear before the Federal High Court, Abuja, as a witness in the ongoing trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, if he is subpoenaed.
Wike made the disclosure during his monthly media chat in Abuja, where he addressed key national issues, including his policies in the FCT, the prospects of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention, and reports alleging that President Bola Tinubu had banned his monthly media briefings.
Nnamdi Kanu, in a notice before the court, revealed plans to invite 23 witnesses in his defence, with 12 of them including top political figures and security chiefs to be summoned on subpoena.
Among those listed are Governors Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, former Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Minister of Works David Umahi, and Wike himself.
The court is expected to determine the admissibility and relevance of the proposed witnesses as Kanu’s defence progresses in the coming weeks.
