....PDP leader slams defectors to APC, vows legal action against expelled members in Ebonyi crisis
The National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Southeast region, Goodluck Chidiebere Egwu, has accused some former members of the party of betraying the platform that brought them to political relevance.
Speaking with journalists in Abakaliki on Saturday, Egwu declared that “major beneficiaries of PDP have now turned against the party,” describing their defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as an act of self-preservation motivated by fear of accountability.
“When you commit sins, you join APC,” Egwu said pointedly; adding that "Those who enjoyed PDP’s goodwill who had no name before the party gave them one are the same people undermining the party today.”
The PDP Vice Chairman cited ongoing internal disputes in Ebonyi State, maintaining that there are currently no legitimate PDP executives in the state following a series of court rulings that nullified existing leadership structures.
He reiterated that the expulsion of former PDP Southeast Zonal Chairman, Ali Odefa, remains valid and irreversible, stressing that Odefa has no legal standing to act in any capacity for the party.
“The court made it clear that Ali Odefa is no longer a member of PDP.
"He was warned not to parade himself around the party or face jail. His expulsion is permanent," he declared.
Egwu emphasized that the party remains committed to constitutional order and internal democracy, vowing to pursue legal action against any individuals or groups violating court directives.
He added that security agencies have been duly notified to enforce compliance with the rulings.
The PDP Vice Chairman also congratulated Senator Mao Ohuabunwa on his emergence as Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, describing it as “a positive step toward rebuilding internal cohesion and strengthening the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.”
Turning to the party’s future strategy, Egwu said the PDP is embarking on a membership reorientation and mobilization drive to reconnect with the grassroots and restore public confidence.
“We are not deterred. Nigerians are suffering under APC’s misrule hunger and insecurity are worsening by the day. PDP will rise again and rescue the country from this hardship.”
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been facing persistent internal crises in the Southeast, particularly in Ebonyi State, following a series of defections and leadership disputes.
While recent court rulings have sought to clarify the legitimate party structure, divisions persist among rival factions.
As the 2027 general elections approach, the PDP faces the dual challenge of reconciling internal rifts and rebuilding public trust amid widespread discontent over economic hardship and insecurity under the APC-led federal government.
