The Ebonyi State Government has refuted claims that some of its projects across the state have been abandoned, describing the reports as misleading and a misrepresentation of facts.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abakaliki, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Party Affairs said the clarification became necessary following media reports that emerged from a one-day inspection of government projects by the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), Ebonyi State Chapter.
According to him, within the last 24 hours, his office had been inundated with calls from members of the public and stakeholders seeking clarification over reports which quoted IPAC as saying that some state government projects had been abandoned.
“As the Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Party Affairs, I call on members of the public to disregard such reports.
"They do not reflect the true condition of the projects on ground, especially those visited during the inspection," he said.
He explained that the projects inspected by IPAC were initiated only a few months ago and were designed with completion timelines of about one year or more, stressing that it was therefore incorrect and mischievous to describe them as abandoned.
He further stated that, to the best of his knowledge, every project initiated by the Ebonyi State Government is either ongoing or at various stages of completion.
“All projects are subjected to due process, including verification, funding accountability, proper mobilization and certification,” he added.
The governor’s aide described the reports as a calculated attempt to create unfounded narratives that could be exploited by opposition voices, insisting that such claims do not align with realities on ground.
While noting that IPAC’s actual position may have been misrepresented in some media publications, he advised individuals and groups interested in visiting government projects in the future to engage professional journalists rather than untrained content creators who could distort facts.
He also reminded journalists that the Ebonyi State Government has already announced a timeline, beginning from next year, for the commissioning of completed projects across the state.
According to him, it is on record that political parties in the state have continued to express support for the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru, largely due to what he described as the governor’s giant strides in project execution.
The state government therefore urged the public to rely on verified information from credible sources and to disregard reports suggesting that government projects in Ebonyi State have been abandoned.
