The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has ordered all individuals occupying what it described as illegal party secretariats across the state to vacate the premises within 48 hours or face legal consequences.
The directive was issued on Monday by Barrister Emmanuel Ekuma, Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Ebonyi State, while reading a communiqué at the end of an emergency meeting of the committee held in Abakaliki.
Ekuma warned individuals “parading themselves as state or zonal leaders of the party” to desist from what he called disorderly conduct, stressing that the caretaker committee was duly inaugurated by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) on November 26, 2025.
“Failure to comply with this directive will attract lawful consequences,” Ekuma said.
The caretaker committee reaffirmed its loyalty to the PDP National Working Committee and the Board of Trustees, insisting that the party’s structures remain intact across the 171 electoral wards and 13 local government areas of Ebonyi State.
Ekuma dismissed claims that the PDP had collapsed in the state following the defection of some members to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing such narratives as misleading.
“Our challenges have made us even stronger and more committed. PDP in Ebonyi State is focused, undaunted, and determined to chart a new course,” he said.
The committee also rejected claims that the PDP had held a valid national convention in Ibadan in November 2025, noting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had refused to recognize the gathering.
Addressing concerns about the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 general elections, the PDP leadership insisted the party remains the one to beat.
The Ebonyi PDP Publicity Secretary, Moses Idika, said the party was grassroots-driven and not built around individuals.
“PDP is the only party that has deep roots in the grassroots. Those defecting are political merchants. Come 2027, PDP will reclaim its rightful place,” Idika said.
He also confirmed that the party would soon conduct ward, local government, and state congresses, noting that Ebonyi is among the states yet to complete the exercise.
The PDP National Vice Chairman (Southeast), Goodluck Chidiebere Egwu, expressed confidence that the party would rebound strongly in the region, despite internal challenges.
“PDP is not dead in Ebonyi or the South East. After our congresses, the party will become more stable and stronger,” Egwu stated.
He urged party members to remain committed, saying PDP remains the best platform to address Nigeria’s economic hardship and insecurity.
The Ebonyi PDP leadership called on members who had left or were contemplating leaving the party to reconsider, assuring them of fairness, inclusiveness, and unity as the party prepares for future elections.
