Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have successfully thwarted a planned violent confrontation between rival cult groups in Enugwu Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area.
The swift intervention followed actionable intelligence received by officers of the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS) in the early hours of December 4, 2025.
Acting promptly, the SPACS team stormed the suspected gathering point of the cult group, leading to the arrest of two suspects identified as Oluebube Ifediorah, 21, and Offorbuike Emmanuel, 25. During the operation, officers recovered a locally-made double-barrel shotgun and two live cartridges, concealed in a red bag found in Ifediorah’s possession.
Other members of the gang reportedly fled into the surrounding bush upon sighting the police.
The Police Command confirmed that efforts are underway to track down the fleeing suspects and dismantle the cult network responsible for the planned confrontation.
Authorities emphasized that the operation reflects ongoing, intensified efforts to rid Anambra State of cult-related crimes and restore public safety.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their swift action and urged residents to continue supporting the police with credible information that could aid in combating cultism and other criminal activities across the state.
