As the festive season approaches, the Ebonyi State Government has issued a stern warning to rice millers and their workers across the state to desist from defrauding unsuspecting customers.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Rice Mill and Manager, Ebonyi Rice World, Ikwo Branch, Abel Uzodimma Nwozaka, delivered the caution while speaking with journalists in his Abakaliki office yesterday.
Nwozaka said the government would not tolerate any fraudulent practice in the rice milling sector during the Yuletide, stressing that anyone caught short-changing customers would be arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution.
He directed millers to strictly adhere to the use of government-approved standard bushels, noting that the standardized measurement is part of Governor Francis Nwifuru’s efforts to sanitize the rice value chain and ensure fairness for both sellers and buyers.
He further urged millers without the approved bushels to visit his office at Mushrooms Quarters, Old Government House, Abakaliki, to obtain theirs.
The SSA also advised customers to feel free to patronize any rice milling centre of their choice, assuring that the measurement system remains uniform across the state due to government regulation.
Nwozaka commended Governor Nwifuru for his unwavering commitment to achieving food sufficiency and strengthening the agricultural sector in Ebonyi.
He encouraged youths in the state to channel their energies into productive ventures and shun any activity that could jeopardize their future.
He urged residents to continue supporting the present administration, noting that sustained cooperation would guarantee more democratic dividends for the people.
