The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ebonyi State chapter, has formally declared its participation in the forthcoming local government elections in the state, announcing the commencement of the sale of nomination forms for interested aspirants.
Speaking during an interview with journalists in Abakaliki on Tuesday, the State Chairman of the party, Dr. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, said the sale of nomination forms began on January 24, 2026, and will close on February 1, 2026, in line with the party’s electoral timetable.
She disclosed that the party’s primaries for both chairmanship and councillorship positions are scheduled to hold on February 2, 2026, ahead of the council elections to be conducted by the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC).
According to Dr. Adibe-Nwafor, the party is fully prepared for the polls and expressed confidence in assurances by the EBSIEC chairman that all political parties would be given a level playing field.
“We are participating in the local government election, and we are holding the EBSIEC chairman by his word that the exercise will be transparent and fair to all parties,” she said.
She dismissed fears that candidates contesting on the platform of the ADC could be disadvantaged, noting that several political parties across the country have emerged victorious in local government elections conducted by state electoral bodies.
The ADC chairman announced that nomination forms for chairmanship aspirants cost ₦500,000, while councillorship forms are sold at ₦150,000.
She added that the party has made provisions to promote inclusiveness by waiving nomination fees for women and persons with disabilities, provided they are registered members of the party.
Dr. Adibe-Nwafor revealed that a number of aspirants, particularly those seeking councillorship positions, have already obtained forms, describing the level of interest as encouraging.
On campaign funding, she said ADC candidates are financially capable of prosecuting their campaigns, with support expected from party stakeholders and grassroots structures across the state.
She further disclosed that the party has recorded a surge in membership across Ebonyi State, noting that over 8,000 new members have been registered in some wards following recent defections from other political parties, including notable figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Describing the party’s mobilisation drive as “political evangelism,” Dr. Adibe-Nwafor said the ADC is intensifying grassroots engagement to strengthen its structure ahead of the elections.
She urged party members to remain loyal to the party and cautioned against double registration, describing it as a violation of electoral law.
The ADC chairman also called on the EBSIEC to ensure transparency by announcing election results promptly at polling centres and issuing result sheets to all participating political parties.
“Once the election is concluded, results should be announced at the venues and issued to all parties. If this is done, we are good to go,” she added.
