The All Progressives Congress (APC), Ebonyi State chapter, has successfully conducted its chairmanship primary elections across the 13 local government areas of the state, with Hon. Chidiebere Alo emerging as the party’s candidate for Abakaliki Local Government Area.
The primary election, conducted by the party’s electoral committee, recorded a large turnout of delegates, party executives, critical stakeholders, friends and well-wishers.
The exercise was held using the open ballot system and was described as peaceful and transparent.
In Abakaliki LGA, the primary election took place at the council headquarters, where Hon. Chidiebere Alo polled 70 votes to clinch the APC chairmanship ticket.
Declaring the result, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee and former Commissioner for Information, Hon. Jude Chikadibia Okpor, explained that five delegates each were selected from the 14 wards of Abakaliki Local Government Area to participate in the election. He commended the conduct of delegates and party members for ensuring a hitch-free exercise.
The election was closely monitored by party faithful and stakeholders and was adjudged peaceful throughout the process.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Alo expressed gratitude to God for the success of the exercise and appreciated the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for what he described as his remarkable developmental strides across the state. He also thanked the State Chairman of the APC, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, as well as stakeholders of Abakaliki LGA for the confidence reposed in him.
Hon. Alo pledged not to betray the mandate given to him and assured party members and residents of Abakaliki of inclusive, people-oriented and purposeful leadership if elected Chairman of the Council.
Several party leaders and stakeholders congratulated the APC flag bearer, including the Executive Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Council, Chief Hon. Stephen Ebere Nwogba; the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Lebechi Mbam; and members of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly representing Abakaliki LGA — Hon. Joseph Ununu (Abakaliki South Constituency) and Hon. Victor Nwoke (Abakaliki North Constituency).
Others who felicitated Hon. Alo include the Special Assistant to the Governor on Rice Mill, Iboko Cluster, Hon. Ifeanyi Mbam, alongside numerous party faithful and stakeholders, who described his emergence as a divine arrangement.
They expressed confidence in his leadership capacity and urged him to carry everyone along if he eventually assumes office.
The local government chairmanship and councillorship elections in Ebonyi State are scheduled to hold in August 2026.
