The Ebonyi Unity Forum, Anambra State, led by President General Chief Moses Ofoke, has condemned in strong terms the recent brutal killings, abduction of innocent residents, and destruction of homes in Oso Edda Community, Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The forum described the attack as barbaric and inhuman, saying it violates the sanctity of human life and undermines the peace for which the people of Ebonyi are known.
“This heinous act is unacceptable and has no justification.
"We equally condemn those who promote or encourage violence in conflict-prone areas, as such actions only spread fear, destruction, and damage the reputation of our state," Ofoke said.
The forum expressed full support for Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, who has condemned the attack and directed security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The statement also commended the swift deployment of security operatives by the Ebonyi State Police Command under CP Adaku Uche-Anya, which has reportedly led to the arrest of some suspects linked to the attack, as confirmed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu.
The forum also welcomed the governor’s decisive sanctions against Amasiri community following the killing of four residents of Okporojo village, Oso Edda.
The sanctions included the dissolution of the Amasiri Development Union executive, withdrawal of recognition of the traditional ruler, removal of village heads, and sack of government appointees.
“These measures are necessary to restore peace and prevent further bloodshed,” the forum stated.
The Ebonyi Unity Forum urged residents of Oso Edda, Amasiri, and neighboring communities to remain calm, avoid reprisals, and uphold the rule of law.
It also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, and political actors to embrace dialogue, restraint, and peaceful coexistence.
The forum extended heartfelt condolences to the families who lost loved ones and property in the attack, and prayed for lasting peace in Oso Edda and across Ebonyi State.
“Violence is not the answer. Peace, unity, and justice remain the foundation for progress,” Chief Ofoke added.
