The Chief Executive Officer of the Dr. Janerita Peters Foundation (DJPF), Dr. Janerita Peters, has described her non-governmental organisation as a personal ministry dedicated to the service of God and humanity.
Dr. Peters stated this in Abakaliki while outlining activities lined up by her foundation in the coming months, noting that the vision behind DJPF is rooted in compassion, selflessness and the desire to uplift the less privileged in society.
According to her, giving back to society should be a collective responsibility, as many individuals and families are in dire need of welfare support and basic necessities of life.
She called on well-meaning Nigerians and affluent members of society to deliberately support the poor and vulnerable, stressing that such gestures would help build a more just, peaceful and inclusive society.
Dr. Peters, who is expected to celebrate her birthday within the week, revealed that the foundation would mark the occasion with the distribution of food items, clothing and other essential materials to the less privileged across the state.
She noted that DJPF has, over the years, touched many lives through its humanitarian interventions and pledged that the foundation would continue to advocate for the welfare of disadvantaged groups, including women, youths and children.
The DJPF boss also urged governments at all levels to intensify efforts aimed at addressing the socio-economic challenges facing Nigerians through sustainable economic policies and empowerment programmes that can stand the test of time.
Speaking further in her birthday message, Dr. Peters, who also serves as the Head of Unit, Centre for Extension and Community Services at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike, Ebonyi State, appealed to the National Assembly to consider a bill that would mandate wealthy individuals to set aside a percentage of their earnings for the upkeep of the less privileged.
She explained that such an initiative would not only reduce crime and criminality but also foster social inclusion and give vulnerable citizens a sense of belonging.
“I want to use the opportunity of my birthday celebration to reach out to the less privileged and disadvantaged groups in our society. We must join hands to alleviate the sufferings of people around us and among us,” she said.
“Governments at all levels are trying, but they can do more. Giving to the needy should be a priority for everyone. The more we give, the more God Almighty will bless us and the works of our hands. The Dr. Janerita Peters Foundation remains committed to meeting the needs of Nigerians to the best of its ability.”
