Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has strongly condemned the recent attack on the people of Oso Edda in Edda Local Government Area of the State and has directed security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Nwifuru through his Chief Press Secretary, Dr Monday Uzor on Friday described the attack as barbaric and a flagrant disregard for the sanctity of human life, noting that such acts are unacceptable and will not be tolerated by his administration.
“I received with rude shock the news of the recent attack on Oso Edda, which claimed lives and led to the destruction of property.
"This act of callousness is a direct affront to our commitment to restoring peace in our communities, and we cannot tolerate it,” the Governor stated.
He reaffirmed that the security of lives and property remains the top priority of his government and assured that no effort would be spared in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
“As a government, the security of the lives and property of our people is of utmost importance, and we will get to the root of this matter,” he added.
The Governor disclosed that the State Government is working closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible for the attack are identified and prosecuted, while also directing security operatives to mobilize fully to the affected area to prevent any further violence or reprisals.
Governor Nwifuru appealed to the people of Oso Edda and surrounding communities to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, assuring them that justice will prevail.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost their loved ones and property in this unfortunate incident. Be rest assured that they will not be left alone,” the Governor said.
He further called on communities across the State to embrace peace and coexistence, stressing that meaningful development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of violence and destruction.
Also, confirming the attack, the Ebonyi State Police Command spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, said that the command is aware of it and that operatives led by the Commissioner of Police are on their way to visit the community.
Ukandu said that the command will make an official statement on the incident, noting that security has been beefed up in the affected area.
