A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has called on South-East governors to immediately condemn and demand the confiscation of the revised edition of the textbook titled “Living History for Junior Secondary School 1”.
Eze described the book as “divisive, satanic and deceitful”, accusing it of deliberately omitting the Igbo ethnic group from Nigeria’s history and promoting hatred against the Igbos.
Reacting to a viral video showing the book’s contents, Chief Eze questioned why any Nigerian unless driven by ethnic bias or hidden motives—would author a history book without mentioning one of Nigeria’s major ethnic groups.
He further raised concerns that the book has been catalogued by the National Library of Nigeria, despite its divisive nature, and criticized the silence of South-East governors over the issue.
“How could the South-East governors keep quiet over this national hatred and disgrace, which is being championed by the President Bola Tinubu-led APC government?” Eze asked.
Eze also condemned the Minister of Education, Dr Morufu Alausa, for approving and allowing the publication of the textbook. He demanded that the minister be immediately removed from office.
“This book is an exercise in futility and a calculated attempt to provoke the Igbo race. It should be withdrawn from circulation immediately,” Eze said.
He insisted that the author, J.M. Itsekuke, should be arrested and prosecuted for promoting hatred and publishing a misleading history text.
At the same time, Eze argued that the approval of the book exposes the Tinubu administration’s alleged anti-Igbo policy, suggesting that the government is unconcerned about the plight of the Igbo people under its leadership.
“I demand the removal of the Education Minister, Dr Morufu Alausa, or else this will be counted as a policy statement by this administration to erase the Igbos from Nigeria’s history,” Chief Eze said.
He also urged South-East governors to rise above politics and demand urgent government action against the author and the textbook.
Chief Eze added that the Education Minister has lost the moral right to remain in office following his silence and acceptance of the book.
