The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has approved the indefinite suspension from office of the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam, and the Honourable Commissioner for Infrastructure Development for Concession, Engr. Ogbonnaya Obasi Abara, over what the Government described as dereliction of official duties.
The decision, which takes immediate effect, was conveyed in a Public Service Announcement issued on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Monday Uzor.
According to the statement, the action followed a review of the performance and administrative conduct within the affected ministries, with the Government citing failure to meet statutory obligations and established executive expectations in the discharge of assigned portfolios.
The suspension, described as indefinite pending further administrative determination, underscores the Governor’s commitment to institutional discipline, performance accountability, and strict adherence to the principles of responsible governance.
The affected commissioners have been directed to hand over all government property in their possession including official vehicles, documents, and other state assets to the Secretary to the State Government with immediate effect.
While the statement did not disclose further details regarding the specific infractions, Government sources indicated that the measure aligns with the administration’s zero-tolerance stance toward non-performance and bureaucratic complacency within critical infrastructure delivery frameworks.
Political observers noted that the Works and Infrastructure Development for Concession portfolios are central to the State’s capital project execution architecture, particularly in road construction, public works coordination, and concession-driven infrastructure financing models.
The development marked one of the most consequential executive actions within the current cabinet structure and signals a recalibration of oversight mechanisms in key development sectors.
As of press time, no acting replacements had been formally announced.
The Government reiterated its resolve to sustain transparency, service efficiency, and the accelerated implementation of its development agenda across all ministries, departments, and agencies.
