The Ebonyi State Government has directed all relevant ministries, departments and agencies to ensure the completion of all ongoing projects across the state within three months.
The directive was issued as Governor Francis Nwifuru-led administration launched a comprehensive rural electrification drive aimed at reducing rural–urban migration in the state.
The announcement was made during the Executive Council (EXCO) meeting briefing on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr. Ikeuwa Omebeh, at his office in Abakaliki.
Omebeh said the EXCO meeting, presided over by Governor Nwifuru, resolved that ministries supervising capital projects particularly Works, Infrastructure, Environment, Water Resources, Housing, Commerce and Industry, and Special Duties must immediately mobilise contractors and strictly adhere to project timelines in line with the administration’s development priorities.
He explained that the rural electrification initiative approved by EXCO is designed to extend electricity to underserved rural communities, stimulate grassroots economic activities, enhance security and curb the rising trend of rural–urban migration in the state.
Omebeh noted that Governor Nwifuru emphasised the importance of electricity as a catalyst for sustainable development, stressing that inclusive growth remains central to the administration’s vision for the state.
The council meeting also witnessed the swearing-in of newly appointed government officials, including two members of the State Civil Service Commission, a Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, and the Secretary of the Rural Electrification Board.
The governor charged the appointees to discharge their duties with professionalism, dedication and a strong sense of public service.
In the education sector, EXCO reviewed the progress of the state government’s fully funded foreign scholarship programme. Omebeh revealed that beneficiaries of the first batch have successfully completed their master’s degrees and are currently proceeding to PhD studies abroad.
He further disclosed that 98 indigenes were selected as beneficiaries of the second batch of the foreign scholarship scheme.
In his words, of this number of 98 beneficiaries, 55 beneficiaries departed Nigeria on February 2, 2026, while the remaining beneficiaries are expected to travel in phases depending on their academic calendars, with all departures expected to be completed by September 2026.
On security and public order, the Commissioner stated that EXCO deliberated on a memo seeking to prohibit the sale and purchase of metal and electrical scraps within the state.
He revealed that after extensive deliberations, the council resolved to set up a three-member committee to review the proposed bill and make recommendations for improved presentation at the next EXCO meeting.
Omebeh reiterated the state government’s commitment to strengthening governance, accelerating development projects, and improving service delivery, noting that the resolutions reached at the meeting reflect Governor Nwifuru’s resolve to deliver meaningful dividends of democracy to the people of Ebonyi State.
