The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ebonyi State Chapter, has commended the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Francis Nwifuru, for sponsoring an additional 92 Ebonyi indigenes for postgraduate studies abroad, describing the initiative as a strategic investment in human capital development.
The beneficiaries, who recently departed Nigeria through the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, Ezza, are en route to the United Kingdom, where they will undertake various postgraduate programmes aimed at enhancing their academic and professional competencies.
In a press statement signed by the State Chairman of the Council, Comrade Douglas Ochishi, the NYCN lauded the governor’s continued commitment to education, noting that the scholarship programme aligns with the People’s Charter of Needs Agenda, particularly its emphasis on education as a driver of sustainable development.
According to the youth body, the initiative reflects a deliberate and future-focused policy direction that prioritises skills acquisition, global exposure, and intellectual empowerment of young people in the state.
“This investment in education, funded by resources contributed by farmers, traders, civil servants, artisans and other citizens of the state, demonstrates the administration’s firm belief that sustainable development is anchored on human capacity building,” the statement read.
The NYCN further highlighted that the latest batch of beneficiaries builds on the 285 Ebonyi indigenes sponsored for overseas postgraduate studies in the previous year, many of whom have already completed their programmes, describing the approach as consistent and impactful.
The council also commended Governor Nwifuru for charging the scholars to maintain discipline, pursue academic excellence, and conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of Ebonyi State and Nigeria, noting that the emphasis on character and responsibility aligns with global standards in leadership and youth development.
While acknowledging the administration’s ongoing infrastructure projects across the state, the NYCN observed that the sustained investment in education reflects a balanced governance model that integrates physical development with long-term human development.
“As the apex umbrella body of youths in Ebonyi State, we are confident that these scholars will return better equipped with advanced knowledge, innovative skills and global perspectives capable of strengthening institutions, stimulating economic growth and enhancing the state’s competitiveness,” the statement added.
The council urged the beneficiaries to maximise the rare opportunity, remain focused throughout their studies, and return home to contribute meaningfully to the development of Ebonyi State, fondly described as the Salt of the Nation.
The NYCN reaffirmed its support for policies that promote youth empowerment and human development, while once again commending Governor Nwifuru for his foresight, courage and commitment to building a prosperous Ebonyi State through education.
