Pressure is mounting on former Superintendent of Police and legal practitioner, Tochukwu Ogalagu, to declare his interest in the 2027 race for the House of Representatives seat representing Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency.
Stakeholders, youth groups, and community leaders across Ohaukwu Local Government Area have increasingly rallied around the former police officer, citing his track record in grassroots empowerment, philanthropy, and public service delivery.
The growing endorsement gained further traction following a widely circulated statement by Ebonyi born social commentator, Comrade Nwoba Chika Nwoba, who urged constituents particularly the Ezzamgbo and Ngbo people to consider Ogalagu as a viable candidate for national representation.
“I don’t often pass a vote of confidence in members of the elite, but when I do, it is not praise; rather it is an account of reality. If Ngbo people truly understand what this young man has done, they would send him to the House of Representatives in 2027," he said.
According to him, Ogalagu has facilitated employment opportunities for over 500 individuals in federal establishments, a claim he said is backed by verifiable records soon to be made public.
Political observers noted that such a record, if substantiated, could position Ogalagu as a strong contender in a constituency where unemployment and youth engagement remain critical issues.
Beyond his reported influence in job facilitation, Ogalagu’s personal story has also contributed to his rising profile.
Before joining the Nigeria Police Force, he was involved in private enterprise, with investments spanning hospitality and the petroleum sector.
His tenure in the police, though relatively brief, was marked by a near-fatal encounter with armed robbers along the Enugu–Ebonyi axis shortly after completing his training.
He reportedly survived the attack and later played a role in the apprehension of the assailants, who are now serving prison sentences.
Community leaders have described his trajectory from modest beginnings to acquiring traditional titles, including the revered Ikemba of Ohaukwu as emblematic of resilience and leadership.
“This is someone who understands both the struggles of the common man and the workings of the system. We need that kind of representation at the National Assembly," Emmanuel Oboh said.
Despite the growing calls, Ogalagu has yet to make any formal declaration regarding his political ambitions.
However, sources close to him suggest consultations are ongoing, with key stakeholders within and outside the constituency.
Analysts said the coming months will be critical in determining whether the groundswell of support translates into a formal bid, as political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to take shape.
For now, the momentum appeared to be building, with supporters insisting that his blend of professional experience, grassroots connection, and perceived accessibility could redefine representation for the Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency.
