An 11-year-old girl, Miss Nukpata Favour, who went missing while serving as a house help, has been found wandering the streets of Ebonyi State Capital.
Mr. Nkwuda Emmanuel Ogochukwu, Director of Child Development (DCD), Ebonyi State, confirmed the authenticity of the information and the safe custody of the child in a statement on Wednesday in Abakaliki.
She was rescued by the Nigeria Police Force (SCID) and handed over to the Ebonyi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Abakaliki, where she is now under protective care.
During an interview with officials at the Ministry, Miss Favour disclosed that she hails from Nwanigadi Yahe, Cross River State, and is the daughter of Mr. Nukpata Inawu and Mrs. Blessing Nukpata Inawu. She attended Evergreen Nursery/Primary School, Nwanigadi Yahe, and was in Primary 6 at the time of her disappearance.
Miss Favour explained that her parents had given her to a woman in Abakaliki as a house help. Unfortunately, she suffered physical abuse, prompting her to run away. She is currently unable to recall her guardian’s name or address in Abakaliki.
Authorities are appealing to the public to assist in reuniting Miss Favour with her family. Anyone with information regarding her parents or relatives is urged to contact the Director of Child Development at the Ebonyi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development on 07069710439.
