A strong wave of political mobilisation swept across Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Sunday as thousands of residents converged at the Practicing School, Ezzamgbo Junction, for a high-powered voter sensitization rally that culminated in the endorsement of Barrister Tochukwu Ogalegu, popularly known as T-Man, for the Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event, which drew participants from Ishielu, Amike, Ntsurakpa, Umuagara and Amaeshi communities, signaled a growing grassroots momentum in favour of Ogalegu’s anticipated bid, with stakeholders describing the gathering as a strategic step in consolidating political structures and deepening voter awareness at the ward level.
The sensitization campaign, already gaining traction across Ezzamgbo Ward and Amaeshi-Umuagara Ward, followed a similar outing at Ngbo Court on Saturday, where the Ngbojeogu bloc comprising eight political wards unanimously adopted Ogalegu as their preferred candidate.
The endorsement was accompanied by assurances of unwavering support, with community leaders citing his track record in human capital development and social intervention programmes.
Various socio-political support groups, including women associations, youth bodies, traders’ unions and faith-based organisations, openly declared allegiance to the Ogalegu project.
The groups maintained that his sustained investments in education, healthcare, employment facilitation and social welfare have positioned him as a credible and people-oriented aspirant capable of delivering effective representation at the National Assembly.
Speaking at the event, former Commissioner for Education in Ebonyi State, Prince Chibueze Ndubuisi Agbo, described Ogalegu as a tested philanthropist whose interventions have had far-reaching impact across the constituency.
He disclosed that the aspirant had sponsored over 2,000 secondary school students in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), a gesture valued at over ₦50 million, in addition to facilitating more than 400 federal job placements for constituents.
Agbo noted that such contributions, undertaken without holding any elective office, underscored Ogalegu’s leadership capacity and justify the growing calls for his emergence as the House of Representatives member in 2027.
He urged eligible voters to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, stressing that the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) remains the ultimate instrument for democratic participation and political change.
Echoing similar sentiments, stakeholder Dr. Victor Nwankwo described Ogalegu as “a man of the people” whose developmental footprint has transcended political considerations. He called for collective action among constituents to translate grassroots support into electoral victory, assuring that logistics, including transportation and technical support, had been arranged to facilitate seamless voter registration across designated centres.
Former Executive Chairman of Ohaukwu LGA, Barrister Clement Odah, also reinforced the endorsement, emphasizing the need for political consolidation ahead of 2027. He commended the unity demonstrated by the Ngbojeogu wards and urged other blocs within the constituency to align with what he described as a “movement for purposeful leadership and sustainable development.”
Odah further highlighted Ogalegu’s record of empowerment, including job facilitation, provision of vehicles, and free medical outreach programmes, noting that such initiatives reflect a governance model anchored on inclusivity and service delivery.
Youth leaders were not left out of the mobilisation drive, as Engr. Emmanuel Oboh, speaking on behalf of the youth constituency, pledged total commitment to the Ogalegu candidacy. He assured that the youth demographic would play a decisive role not only in voter registration but also in safeguarding electoral mandates during the polls.
Oboh expressed concerns over past electoral irregularities but maintained that the emerging political consciousness among the electorate would ensure that votes count in 2027.
He emphasized a shift away from inducement-based politics, declaring that the people are now more inclined toward performance-driven leadership.
Religious leaders under the aegis of the T-Man Liberation Pastors Forum also lent their voices to the endorsement. National Coordinator of the group, Pastor Timothy Nwachukwu, described Ogalegu’s aspiration as divinely inspired, pledging spiritual and moral support throughout the campaign cycle.
He noted that faith-based institutions would continue to play a role in mobilising grassroots support and promoting civic responsibility.
Other speakers at the event, including community leaders and women representatives, advocated for equity and zoning considerations, arguing that the Amike Izhia axis deserves the opportunity to produce the next federal lawmaker for the constituency.
In his response, Ogalegu described the sensitization campaign as a strategic civic engagement initiative aimed at strengthening democratic participation. He reiterated that the exercise would be cascaded from ward to village, polling unit and household levels to ensure maximum coverage.
He called on supporters to match their enthusiasm with concrete action by registering and obtaining their PVCs, noting that electoral victory is predicated on active participation. He also formally inaugurated support groups across Ezzamgbo and Amaeshi-Umuagara wards, charging members to intensify mobilisation efforts.
Political observers noted that the early grassroots consolidation, coupled with coordinated voter education campaigns, may significantly shape the dynamics of the 2027 contest in the Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, as aspirants begin to build structures ahead of the election cycle.
