A popular native doctor, John Paul Ezenagu, also known as Mmuo Mmili Afulu Anya, reportedly ended up in tears after the spirit he claimed to serve failed to appear during a ritual, following his arrest by the Udogachi Security Team.
Ezenagu told the operatives that he serves Nne Nwanyi Mmiri (Queen of the Coast), a spirit he said is very active and capable of manifesting in the form of a crocodile. He assured the team that after performing his incantations, the spirit would respond to his prayers.
The native doctor led security personnel to a nearby stream where he usually conducts sacrifices. He began making incantations and mysterious calls, but no crocodile or spirit appeared. He then fetched a bell he said was essential for the ritual and continued calling, but the spirit still did not manifest.
Eyewitnesses said Ezenagu’s demeanor changed from calm to agitated, and eventually to crying and begging. Some joked that the Queen of the Coast may have fled at the sight of the security operatives.
In the end, the native doctor was reportedly left pleading with both the security team and the Anambra State government, as the spirit he claimed to serve did not appear.
