The Ebonyi State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has strongly condemned the kidnapping and gruesome murder of the traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike community in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Eze Francis Igwe, describing the act as barbaric and a direct assault on the peace and cultural heritage of the state.
In a press statement issued by the State Chairman of the council, Douglas Ochishi, the youth body called for justice and urged security agencies to ensure that all those responsible for the crime are apprehended and prosecuted.
The council also commended the swift intervention of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for directing security agencies to immediately investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
According to the statement, the governor’s prompt response demonstrates strong leadership and commitment to the protection of lives and property in the state under his administration’s governance agenda.
“The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ebonyi State Chapter, strongly condemns the kidnapping and gruesome murder of HRH Eze Francis Igwe, the revered traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike community and father of the former Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State,” the statement said.
The council noted that the killing of the monarch has thrown the community and the entire state into mourning, adding that such acts of violence must not be allowed to thrive in a society striving for peace and development.
NYCN further appreciated the efforts of security agencies who have reportedly made arrests in connection with the crime and urged them to intensify investigations to ensure that all those involved, including collaborators, face the full weight of the law.
The youth body also used the opportunity to call on young people across the state to desist from criminal activities and social vices capable of undermining peace and security.
It stressed that crime, violence and lawlessness have no place in a progressive society and encouraged youths to embrace productive ventures and support government efforts aimed at building a peaceful and prosperous Ebonyi State.
The council also extended its condolences to the family of the late monarch, particularly his son and former Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Eric Kelechi Igwe, as well as the people of Ndufu-Alike community and the entire Ikwo Noyo clan.
NYCN prayed for the peaceful repose of the late royal father and for strength for the bereaved family and community to bear the painful loss.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, youth development and cooperation with government and security agencies in maintaining law and order across Ebonyi State.
