A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State and its 2023 governorship candidate, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, has congratulated the newly elected National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, describing its emergence as a major step toward restoring internal democracy and strengthening party institutions.
Odii, in a statement issued on Monday and signed by Mazi Moses E. Idika, spokesman of the Anyi Ga Emeya Movement, said the election of the new NWC led by National Chairman Abdulrahaman Mohammed and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu reflects the triumph of constitutionalism and the rule of law within the party.
Odii, the Ebonyi PDP leader, who led delegates from the state to the party’s 2026 elective National Convention in Abuja, noted that the outcome of the exercise underscores the party’s resilience and its commitment to due process after a period of internal contestations.
He commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and party stalwart, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as a firm and consistent stance in defence of the party’s integrity.
Odii said Wike’s role was instrumental in ensuring that the PDP was not “hijacked by selfish anti-democratic forces,” adding that his interventions helped to stabilise the party at a critical time.
The statement also conveyed Odii’s congratulations to two Ebonyi indigenes elected into the party’s national leadership, Hon. Chidiebere Goodluck Egwu, Deputy National Publicity Secretary, and Mazi Moses Eze Idika, National Ex-Officio member.
According to him, their emergence reflects the increasing relevance of Ebonyi State in the PDP’s national structure and decision-making process.
Odii expressed optimism that the reconstituted NWC would reposition the party for effective participation in Nigeria’s democratic process, stressing that the PDP has “effectively bounced back” and is ready for the next political phase.
He urged party members to remain united and committed to the ideals of the PDP, noting that cohesion and discipline would be critical in consolidating the gains of the convention.
