The decision was reached during a well-attended stakeholders’ forum held at Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, bringing together past and present student leaders, SUG presidents, zonal representatives, and other key actors within the student movement in the state.
According to a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and signed by the Chairman of the Forum, Comrade Bldr. Okoro Joshua Offor, the endorsement followed extensive deliberations, consultations, and a comprehensive assessment of eligible aspirants from Ebonyi State.
The forum noted that the adoption of Nwuruku was based on his “competence, experience, capacity, and demonstrable commitment to the ideals and advancement of the Nigerian student movement.”
Stakeholders highlighted his track record within NANS, describing him as a committed leader who has distinguished himself through effective mobilization, strategic coordination, and selfless service.
They expressed confidence that his emergence would reposition the NANS Senate as a vibrant and functional legislative body capable of advancing the welfare and rights of Nigerian students.
“The forum is convinced that his leadership will herald a new era for the NANS Senate,” the communiqué stated, adding that all student leaders and stakeholders across Ebonyi State have been urged to unite and support his candidacy.
The meeting also called on Nigerian students nationwide to actively participate in the 2027 general elections, while emphasizing the need for peaceful conduct, rejection of electoral malpractice, and adherence to democratic values.
In addition, the forum commended the Federal Government for the implementation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a critical intervention for expanding access to higher education. It, however, called for sustained transparency and improvements to ensure the scheme’s long-term effectiveness.
In their separate remarks, the Special Assistant to the Ebonyi State Governor on Student Affairs, Comrade Joshua Nwafor, and the Special Assistant on Student Mobilization, Comrade Angel Odono, described the endorsement as a significant step for the state’s student community.
They urged stakeholders to remain united and mobilize support for the candidacy, while also calling for continued political support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru ahead of the 2027 elections.
The motion for Nwuruku’s adoption was moved by the President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Ebonyi State University, Comrade Chika Abraham Nwuhuo, and seconded by Comrade Amarachi Cassandra Williams, who cited the candidate’s potential to drive reforms and improve student welfare.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Nwuruku expressed gratitude to the stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, describing the endorsement as a call to service he would not take for granted.
“You came here today to speak with one voice and in unity. I deeply appreciate this show of solidarity,” he said.
He pledged to reform, revive, and restructure the NANS Senate if elected, promising to promote peace, stability, and institutional integrity within the student body.
Nwuruku also assured that his campaign and the electoral process would be crisis-free, stressing his commitment to a transparent and legitimate victory.
“This is a mission to liberate Nigerian students. I will represent your voices and ensure that the NANS Senate becomes stronger and more effective,” he added.
The forum reaffirmed its commitment to unity and progress within the student movement, describing the endorsement as a reflection of the collective will of Ebonyi student leadership and a strategic step toward strengthening NANS at the national level.
